Detailed Job Description (Summer Internship – Digital Investigation & Discovery):

J.S. Held is seeking an entrepreneurial and highly driven individual for a summer internship within their Digital Investigation & Discovery (DI&D) team. The ideal candidate will be a flexible, strategic thinker eager to learn data analytics, cybersecurity, digital forensics, and electronic data management, including advanced data collection and analysis techniques.

The internship involves a variety of tasks leveraging and challenging existing skills and experience. The successful candidate will understand overall objectives and apply their knowledge to develop and execute solutions for client needs.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

• Using industry-standard tools and practices for the preservation of electronically stored information (ESI) and validating that preservation.
• Performing investigative analysis on digital devices or electronic data using forensic tools like EnCase, Axiom, Cellebrite Physical Analyzer, and Cellebrite Inspector.
• Ensuring the secure transfer of physical and electronic evidence while maintaining chain of custody.
• Following best practices for client deliverables through quality control checks.
• Working on projects involving the identification, collection, processing, review, and production of electronic data relevant to security and regulatory investigations.
• Creating, preparing, and validating analyses, reports, presentations, and other deliverables related to project scope and results.
• Engaging daily with client activities, including interacting with clients, internal J.S. Held teams, and other stakeholders.
• Taking ownership of projects and tasks with minimal supervision, providing regular updates to clients or team leads.

Required Qualifications:

• Demonstrated coursework in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Understanding of operating systems such as Windows and macOS (Linux and UNIX experience is a plus).
• Strong understanding of ESI hardware (laptops, desktops, servers, mobile phones, and tablets).
• Experience with cloud-based collaborative/data repositories (M365, Google Workspace, Dropbox, Box, Slack, Jira).
• Programming language skills (SQL, VBA, and Python are a plus).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to travel locally and overnight (20-25%).
