Job Description: Software Engineer – Early Career

This role involves providing support to the Enterprise through delivering best-in-class technology solutions. You will participate in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle, including:

Gathering and analyzing requirements: Understanding the needs of the business and translating them into technical specifications.
Designing: Creating the architecture and blueprint for the software solution.
Testing: Ensuring the software meets the required standards and performs as intended.
Documenting: Creating and maintaining technical documentation for the software.
Implementing: Deploying and configuring the software solution.
Responding to outages: Troubleshooting and resolving issues that arise in production.

Training:

• USAA provides a technical training curriculum to establish base-level knowledge essential to software development standards and practices.
• After completing the training, you will be assigned to an application development team.

Work Environment:

• This role requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week.
• This position can be based in San Antonio, TX or Plano, TX.
• Relocation assistance is not available.

Responsibilities:

• Under direct supervision, design, develop, code, and test technical solutions.
• Write code to deliver features and improvements on a regular basis.
• Verify and resolve technical problems and production issues through troubleshooting techniques.
• Improve application stability and scalability.
• Create and maintain technical documentation.
• Create and improve automated tests and code quality.
• Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree OR 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree.
• Approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT).
• Up to 2 years of software development experience.
Preferred:
• Foundational and conceptual knowledge of function/discipline and demonstrated application of knowledge, skills, and abilities towards work products.
• Basic Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL.
• Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary: $61,110.00 – $116,800.00 (actual salary may vary by location).
Pay Incentives: Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
