Job Description: Audit Intern
KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join their Audit Services team. This role involves contributing to financial statement audits for clients, primarily within the federal government sector. The intern will work as part of a team, playing an integral role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of client financial information while adhering to principles of objectivity and independence.
Responsibilities:
• Collaborate within a team on financial statement audits, contributing to the overall effectiveness of client operations.
• Maintain the highest professional integrity and standards.
• Analyze client-specific risks by reviewing financial results, external information, current business trends, and client transactions. (Focus on federal government clients)
• Create clear and well-organized audit documentation illustrating an understanding of client processes and technology systems.
• Under supervision, execute and document tests of client controls and financial statement account balances, using appropriate standards and terminology.
• Contribute to high-quality audits through efficient task completion and positive client and team interactions.
• Support the use of Data & Analytics (D&A) in the audit process, including data extraction and analysis. This involves using tools such as AI, Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI, along with preparing related documentation.
Qualifications:
• Current enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent.
• Progress towards CPA licensure requirements in the office’s principal place of business (or via reciprocity with documentation). Specific requirements vary by state.
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data analytics is preferred, along with experience using data analysis tools like Alteryx or Power BI.
• Eligibility for or possession of a U.S. Government Security clearance.
• Understanding of technical accounting, financial reporting standards, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Proficiency in various computer applications, especially MS Office (with a focus on Excel), and the ability to quickly learn KPMG audit tools and client applications.
• Demonstrated commitment to quality service, strong communication and time management skills, relationship-building abilities, professional judgment, skepticism, adaptability, and teamwork. Leadership experience and project management skills are a plus.
• Must reside within commuting distance of the office and be able to travel to client sites as needed (using personal transportation). Expect in-person work at the office or client site for at least three days per week.
• U.S. work authorization is required; sponsorship is not available.
