Job Description: Audit Intern

KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join its Audit Services team. This internship offers a chance to play an integral role in conducting financial statement audits for clients in capital markets. The key responsibilities include:

Financial Statement Audits: Working as part of a team to conduct audits, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of client financial information while adhering to principles of objectivity and independence. Contributing to the overall effectiveness of clients’ operations and maintaining high professional integrity.
Risk Assessment: Developing an understanding of client-specific risks through analysis of financial results, external information, business trends, and client transactions.
Audit Documentation: Preparing clear and well-structured audit documentation outlining the understanding of clients’ processes and technology systems.
Control and Balance Testing: Executing and documenting testing of client controls and financial statement account balances using appropriate standards and terminology. This will be done under guidance.
Data and Analytics (D&A): Supporting the use of D&A in audits, including data extraction and analysis. Utilizing technologies and tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI to perform substantive audit procedures and preparing related documentation.
Client and Team Interaction: Supporting the execution of high-quality audits through assigned tasks and professional interactions with clients and the engagement team.
Professional Conduct: Acting with integrity, professionalism, and personal responsibility to maintain a respectful work environment.

Qualifications:

Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent. Pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the office’s location (completion of necessary credits before starting as an Audit Associate is required). Additional academic credits must be remaining upon internship completion to finish degree/CPA requirements.
GPA: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
Coursework: Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics is preferred. Experience with data analysis tools like Alteryx or Power BI is also preferred.
Knowledge: Knowledge of technical accounting and financial reporting standards and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) is required.
Technical Skills: Ability to use various computer applications, particularly MS Office (especially Excel), and aptitude to quickly learn KPMG Audit tools and client applications.
Soft Skills: Demonstrated quality service mindset; strong communication, time management, and relationship-building skills; sound professional judgment and professional skepticism; flexibility and adaptability as a team player; leadership experience; resourcefulness in delivering high-quality work; project management skills (a plus).
Location: Must reside within reasonable commuting distance to the office and be able to travel to client sites using personal transportation. In-person work at the KPMG office or client site is expected for an average of three days per week, with potential travel and overnight stays for some client assignments.
