Job Description: Audit Intern
KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join its Audit Services team. The intern will play an integral role in conducting financial statement audits for clients in the capital markets. Responsibilities include:
• Working as part of a team to ensure the accuracy and reliability of client financial information, upholding principles of objectivity and independence.
• Contributing to the overall effectiveness of client operations while maintaining high professional integrity.
• Developing an understanding of client-specific risks by reviewing financial results, external information, business trends, and client transactions.
• Preparing clear and well-structured audit documentation detailing the understanding of client processes and technology systems.
• Executing and documenting testing of client controls and financial statement account balances, using appropriate standards and terminology.
• Supporting the execution of high-quality audits through assigned tasks and professional interactions with clients and the engagement team.
• Supporting the use of Data & Analytics (D&A) in the audit, including data extraction and analysis. This involves utilizing technologies and tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI, and preparing related documentation.
Qualifications:
• Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent program.
• Must be pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the principal place of business (the state where the office is located) before starting as an Audit Associate (completion of necessary academic credits is required).
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish (ability to use both languages in a business setting is preferred).
• Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics is preferred; experience with data analysis tools like Alteryx or Power BI is also preferred.
• Knowledge of technical accounting and financial reporting standards, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Proficiency in various computer applications, especially MS Office (with a focus on Excel), and aptitude for quickly learning KPMG Audit tools and client applications.
• Demonstrated quality service mindset; strong communication, time management, and relationship-building skills; ability to exercise sound professional judgment and professional skepticism; flexibility and adaptability as a team player; leadership experience; resourcefulness in delivering high-quality work; project management skills are a plus.
• Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the office and be able to travel to client sites as needed. Work will involve approximately three in-person days per week at a KPMG office or client site.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without needing employment-based sponsorship. KPMG does not sponsor applicants for U.S. work visas for this position.
