Job Description: Audit Intern

KPMG is seeking an Audit Intern to join its Audit Services team. This internship offers an integral role in conducting financial statement audits for capital markets clients. The intern will contribute to ensuring the accuracy and reliability of client financial information while upholding principles of objectivity and independence.

Responsibilities:

• Work as part of a team to conduct financial statement audits.
• Contribute to the effectiveness of clients’ operations while maintaining professional integrity.
• Develop an understanding of client-specific risks by reviewing financial results, external information, business trends, and client transactions.
• Prepare clear and well-structured audit documentation regarding clients’ processes and technology systems.
• Execute and document testing of client controls and financial statement account balances using appropriate standards and terminology.
• Support high-quality audits through task performance and professional interactions.
• Utilize Data and Analytics (D&A) in audits, including data extraction and analysis; employ tools like AI, Excel, Alteryx, SQL, Python, and Power BI.
• Prepare related D&A documentation.
• Maintain a respectful and courteous work environment.

Qualifications:

• Enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor of Accountancy, Master of Accountancy, or equivalent.
• Pursuing CPA licensure requirements in the office’s state (academic credits completed before starting).
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Coursework or minor in information systems, software engineering, computer science, or data and analytics preferred; experience with Alteryx or Power BI is a plus.
• Knowledge of technical accounting, financial reporting standards, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel); aptitude for learning KPMG audit tools and client applications.
• Strong communication, time management, and relationship-building skills; sound professional judgment and skepticism.
• Flexible and adaptable team player; leadership experience a plus; ability to demonstrate project management skills.
• Must reside within commuting distance of the office and have reliable transportation.
• On average, three in-person days per week at a KPMG office or client site; some client sites may require travel and overnight stays.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
