Job Description: Audience Intern, Summer 2025
The San Francisco Chronicle is seeking a Summer Intern to join our dynamic team of digital producers and audience editors. This paid, 12-week internship will provide you with a hands-on experience in the world of digital journalism, immersing you in the cross-functional teams responsible for producing sfchronicle.com, managing our social channels, and planning our multimedia initiatives.
What you’ll learn and do:
• Receive training and mentorship from experienced editors and colleagues across departments.
• Draft compelling social media posts for Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
• Learn to navigate and utilize our online Content Management System (CMS) to produce engaging digital article pages.
• Create digital-first content, which may include:
• Writing articles
• Shooting and/or editing digital video
• Crafting content specifically targeted to social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
What we’re looking for:
• Passion for audience engagement: Demonstrated interest in social media strategy, digital-first content, and audience interaction.
• Comfortable with fast-paced environments: Ability to thrive in a dynamic newsroom setting, handling content ranging from breaking news to lifestyle features.
• Multimedia skills (a plus): Experience with video and photo editing, or a keen interest in creating graphics, photo, or video content for social media.
• Newsroom experience (preferred but not required): Strong contributions to college publications or previous internships in journalism.
This is a full-time position based in San Francisco. The workweek is typically Monday through Friday, with potential for weekend, evening, and holiday work as news demands.
Internships typically begin in June and last through August. Applications are due by Friday, October 25, 2024.
