Job Description – Summer 2025 Internship

Location: UIUC Research Park, Champaign, IL

Eligibility: This internship is open only to UIUC students pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (must graduate on or after December 2025). Applicants must be US Citizens, permanent residents, or MS students with work authorization (F1 Visa on CPT accepted only for masters-level students).

Focus Areas:

Internships are available for working on a wide range of products, applications, and services, including:

• Software development for Mission Critical Communication Systems: This could involve developing software for communication systems used by first responders, law enforcement, and other critical operations.
• Application development and security solutions for mobile devices: You might be developing applications for Android and iOS platforms that enhance security, communication, and data management for mobile devices used in public safety and other industries.
• Cyber security threat prevention: Work on solutions to prevent cyber threats associated with on-premise infrastructure, mobile devices, and cloud-based technology.
• Customer facing application development: Contribute to the development of applications that are used directly by Motorola Solutions’ customers, including public safety agencies and enterprises.
• Controller, gateway, and base station software development: Develop software for devices and infrastructure that are essential components of communication networks.

Desired Skills:

Motorola Solutions is looking for candidates with strong interests in:

• Cloud computing
• Microservices-based application development and container-based software deployment and orchestration
• Data analytics, including data lake and machine learning technologies
• Cybersecurity and secure computing solutions (best practices, development methodologies, protocols, key management)
• Mission critical feature and application development

Key Responsibilities:

• Work within a team environment utilizing agile practices.
• Contribute to the planning, implementation, and delivery of products and services.

Technical Skills:

• Team software development using Agile practices
• Microservices-based software architecture and containerization
• Security concepts (authentication, access control, authorization, cryptography, least privilege)
• Cloud-based or embedded-computing software development experience
