Job Description: Summer Internship – Engineering Track, Structure, and Services Team
This paid summer internship program offers ambitious students the opportunity to collaborate with experienced professionals on essential projects that enhance BNSF’s infrastructure’s safety, efficiency, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
• Infrastructure Maintenance and Construction: Inspect, maintain, repair, and construct track infrastructure, including rails, ties, and ballast, to meet BNSF standards.
• Project Planning and Execution: Plan and schedule maintenance and repairs, and verify the quality of completed work.
• Infrastructure Expansion and Updates: Oversee projects that involve expanding BNSF terminals and hubs, central lines, facilities, repairing and replacing structures, and managing public projects and utility crossings.
• Safety Management: Ensure the safety of their teams during project execution.
• Project Management: Manage project finances, schedules, and communication with stakeholders.
• Shadowing Opportunities: Gain firsthand experience by shadowing positions such as Supervisor Engineering Support, Assistant Roadmaster, Roadmaster, and Division Engineer.
Work Environment:
• Indoor/Outdoor: Work is conducted in both indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to diverse and extreme weather conditions.
• Safety Sensitive: The role involves working in a safety-sensitive environment, with potential exposure to loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.
• Travel: Requires up to 75% travel based on business needs.
Qualifications:
• Basic Qualifications:
• Legally authorized to work in the United States and at least 18 years old upon hire.
• No sponsorship required for work authorization.
• Capable of working in a 24/7 environment, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and can safely perform duties outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Able and willing to relocate anywhere on the BNSF Railway operating system for the summer and travel as required.
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural, etc.), Construction Management, Business, or a similar degree program from an accredited university.
• Maintain a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA.
• Have LESS THAN three (3) years of professional work experience (excluding internships, part-time jobs, or positions held while pursuing a degree).
• Have access to reliable transportation.
• Preferred Qualifications:
• Prior internship experience or less than 3 years of work experience in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, Construction, Logistics, or a related field.
• Leadership experience in campus, community, or extracurricular organizations.
