Job Description

The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute dedicated to improving the systems of democracy and justice in the United States. Their work spans a wide range of issues, including voting rights, campaign finance reform, ending mass incarceration, and preserving Constitutional protections in the fight against terrorism. They strive to hold political institutions and laws accountable to the ideals of democracy and equal justice for all.

The Brennan Center combines rigorous research, innovative policy crafting, and active advocacy to make a tangible impact. They work in various arenas: Congress and state legislatures, courts, and the court of public opinion.

The current internship opportunity is for an in-person role at their New York office, focusing on the Justice Program.

Responsibilities:

General Administrative Support: Filing, photocopying, answering phones, shipping and mailing, coordinating meetings, drafting routine correspondence, covering the reception desk.
Observing Substantive Meetings and Events: Attending and observing discussions related to the Justice Program’s work.
Criminal Justice Tracking: Monitoring developments in criminal justice.
Stakeholder Identification: Building lists of key stakeholders in the criminal justice system.
Background Research: Conducting in-depth background research on various aspects of criminal justice.
Report Support: Assisting with report research, editing, and rollout.
Administrative Support: Providing administrative support to the Justice Program team.

Qualifications:

Essential Skills: Independent, detail-oriented, energetic, punctual, highly organized, excellent research, writing, and analytical skills, passion for criminal justice reform, proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
Preferred Skills: Experience with Salesforce, data or statistical analysis.
Openness: Willingness to take on evolving responsibilities.

Internship Details:

Location: In-person at the New York office.
Hours: Approximately 10-20 per week.
Pay: $17.50 per hour.
Duration: Spring Semester 2025.
