Job Description: Sustainability Intern
This internship is a structured program offered to Wingate University students, offering hands-on experience in the world of hospitality and sustainability. You’ll work closely with the leaders at Wingate Eats, developing skills and gaining valuable experience in various areas:
Key Areas of Experience:
• Operations: Gain practical knowledge of day-to-day operations within a food service environment.
• Marketing: Understand the role of marketing in promoting sustainable initiatives.
• Administration: Learn administrative tasks and procedures.
• Guest Services: Develop strong customer service skills to ensure positive guest experiences.
• Problem Resolution: Hone your problem-solving skills to address challenges and find solutions.
• Planning & Implementation of Innovation: Participate in developing and implementing new sustainable practices.
• Client Relationship Skills: Build strong relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
Focus on Sustainability:
You’ll be involved in a wide range of sustainability initiatives, including:
• Research & Analysis: Analyze industry best practices for sustainable food systems.
• Coordination & Visualization: Help coordinate and visualize the source of food, from farm to table.
• Metrics & Reporting: Prepare metric-backed reports for business reviews and other stakeholders.
• Data Input: Enter operational data into reporting programs.
• Financial Management: Gain exposure to the financial aspects of sustainability.
• Food Recovery Network Initiatives: Contribute to food waste reduction programs.
• Operational Standards: Execute sustainable practices within the food service environment.
• Storytelling & Communication: Share metric-backed stories with reporting entities (e.g., AASHE STARS, GRA).
• Training: Train dining team and students on sustainable practices.

Job Responsibilities (may include any or all):
• Conduct research and analyze sustainable best practices.
• Coordinate sustainable initiatives and visualize the source of food.
• Analyze results and prepare metric-backed stories for business reviews and other touch points.
• Input operational data into reporting programs.
• Manage financial aspects related to sustainability initiatives.
• Implement food recovery network initiatives.
• Execute operational standards to ensure sustainable practices.
• Share metric-backed stories with reporting entities.
• Work in different settings within the world of hospitality (FOH, BOH, Catering, Admin).
• Train dining team and students on sustainable initiatives.
• Present findings in reports and presentations.
