The Bridgeport Islanders are the AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, dedicated to providing top-tier entertainment and engaging content to their fanbase spanning from Fairfield County across the Long Island Sound.
Job Description: Communications/Public Relations Intern
The Bridgeport Islanders are seeking an enthusiastic and driven candidate for the position of Communications/Public Relations Intern. This internship is a seasonal opportunity beginning in September 2024 and lasting through the end of the season (including playoffs).
Responsibilities:
• Content Creation: Write feature stories, press releases, game recaps, and mid-week content for BridgeportIslanders.com
• Game Night Responsibilities: Press box setup, media hospitality, distribution of credentials and rosters, written content, and uploading video highlights
• Brainstorming & Pitching: Develop and pitch ideas for print, video, and other content formats
• Record Keeping: Maintain the organization’s statistical records, photo library, game notes, and news clippings
• Assisting the Director: Support the Director of Broadcasting and Communications as needed
Required Qualifications:
• Education: Undergraduate or post-graduate student with a strong communications background and a major in communications, journalism, or a related field.
• Availability: Must be able to work all home game nights, plus 3-5 office hours each week.
• Skills: Intense desire to progress in the sports communications industry, excellent written and oral communication skills, creativity, attention to detail, ability to think on one’s feet and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Computer Proficiency: Proficient in Word, Excel, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and InDesign.

Location:
You will primarily work out of the Bridgeport, CT office inside Total Mortgage Arena, which will include attending home games and other events (including evenings, weekends, and holidays).
