Job Description – Tax Seasonal Intern – State & Local Tax:
KPMG is seeking a Tax Seasonal Intern to join their State & Local Tax practice. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to a team of tax professionals while gaining valuable experience in the field.
Responsibilities:
• Tax Planning: Assist team members in developing tax savings opportunities (income/franchise, sales/use) arising from legal entity changes. Design specific plans to address state and local tax matters for businesses.
• Transaction Analysis: Analyze state and local tax ramifications of various transactions, including mergers and acquisitions. Assist clients in identifying and negotiating business incentives and available credits.
• State Tax Compliance: Stay updated on state legislative, judicial, and administrative developments. Assist multi-state companies with compliance, advising, planning, and controversy management related to state and local taxes.
• Income & Franchise Tax: Assist with tax issues related to income and franchise taxes, as well as sale, use, and property taxes. Prepare and/or review state income tax estimated payments, extensions, and tax returns.
• Tax Notices: Assist in addressing notices received from state tax authorities. Conduct research and draft technical memoranda related to compliance issues.
• Technology Development: Build capabilities in key technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Alteryx, and Power BI to support client service delivery.
Qualifications:
• Education: Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, mathematics, economics, information technology, data and analytics, engineering (financial, industrial, or systems), or a comparable program.
• Preferred Qualifications:
• Degree and/or areas of study: Accounting and Taxation
• Pursuing educational requirements for CPA licensure in the state where the office is located.
• Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Skills:
• Strong tax research skills.
• Demonstrated quality service mindset.
• Strong technical aptitude, critical thinking skills, and proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
• Excellent communication, time management, and leadership skills.
• Flexible and adaptable team player with a resourceful approach to delivering high-quality work.
• Ability to learn and navigate technologies like AI, Alteryx, and Power BI.
• Location: Must reside within a reasonably commutable distance to the office and be able to travel to work locations using own transportation (personal vehicle or public transport).
• Travel: Ability to travel and/or work on-site at client premises as needed, potentially with short notice.
• Visa: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without needing employment-based visa sponsorship. KPMG does not sponsor applicants for U.S. work visas for this role.
