Job Description
The Pastoral Care Intern plays a vital role in providing spiritual support and guidance to patients and families at UNC Health Hillsborough Hospital. This 11-week summer program offers hands-on experience in pastoral care and counseling, with a focus on supporting individuals and families coping with the challenges of hospitalization, illness, and grief.
As a Pastoral Care Intern, you will:
• Provide pastoral care and counsel to patients, family members, and staff in assigned clinical areas
• Participate in the ministry of the department, including overnight on-call shifts and leading worship services
• Participate in the clinical pastoral education training process through group and individual supervision
Responsibilities
• Maintain a safe and supportive environment for patients, self, and others
• Provide spiritual care and counseling with full consideration of patient safety needs
• Respond pastorally and timely to situations requiring pastoral care and support
• Participate in the clinical pastoral education training process through group and individual supervision
• Prepare and reflect upon clinical materials
Qualifications
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Ordination and ecclesiastical endorsement from denomination/faith group preferred but not required
• One to three months of related experience and/or training
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret various materials
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Compensation
• $7.25 per hour (Flat Rate)
