Manager, Account Payable | Flexport

The Tone:

This role is crucial for scaling the company’s Accounts Payable operations, leading a team to manage invoice processing, freight auditing, and account reconciliation while driving automation. It combines leadership with hands-on process ownership and technical fluency in automation and AI.

• Team: Leads a team of 10-12 AP Associates across invoice processing, freight audit, and account reconciliation functions, reporting to the Senior Manager, Accounts Payable & Freight Audit.
• Mission: Lead a team to ensure accurate and timely processing of high-volume invoices, freight audits, and account reconciliations, while driving automation and continuous process improvement.
• Tech Stack: AP systems, ERP platforms (e.g. NetSuite), freight audit tools

What You’ll Actually Do
• Team Leadership: Lead and develop a team of 10-12 AP Associates, ensuring consistent performance management, coaching, and a collaborative team culture.
• Operational Oversight: Oversee the accuracy and timeliness of high-volume invoice processing, freight invoice auditing, and account reconciliation across the team.
• Issue Resolution: Review and resolve complex or escalated billing disputes, discrepancies, and reconciliation variances, partnering with carriers, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
• Compliance & Knowledge: Ensure adherence to company policies, contractual terms, and regulatory requirements, maintaining working knowledge of multi-country tax and invoicing.
• Automation & Improvement: Build and deploy practical automation tools and AI-enabled workflows directly, analyzing performance and recommending continuous improvements.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; Manager-level role in Accounts Payable, freight auditing, or related finance operations.
• Experience: 5+ years of experience in Accounts Payable, freight auditing, or related finance operations, including experience managing or developing a team; hands-on experience with AP systems, ERP platforms (e.g. NetSuite), and freight audit tools; experience building or implementing automation tools or AI-enabled workflows.
• Skills: Strong understanding of invoice matching, freight rate structures, account reconciliation processes, and accessorial charges; working knowledge of multi-country tax, invoicing, and regulatory requirements; strong knowledge of financial controls, compliance frameworks, and audit metrics; excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
