Job Description
Senior Electrical Engineer (Data Center) | AECOM
The Tone:
This is a full-time Senior Electrical Engineer role at AECOM, operating under a hybrid work model. AECOM is a global infrastructure consulting firm dedicated to delivering a better world by improving commutes, ensuring power supply, providing clean water, and transforming urban landscapes. This role is a key technical contributor, essential for designing critical Low Voltage (LV) systems in building services projects, directly contributing to the resilient infrastructure AECOM delivers worldwide. The work helps communities thrive by ensuring reliable electrical systems are in place for essential services and new developments.
The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: Full-time
• Location: Hybrid
• Team: Electrical Engineering practice; reports to Principal Engineers and Associate Technical Director; mentors junior engineers.
• Mission: Own the independent design and delivery of primary Low Voltage (LV) electrical systems for building services projects.
• Tech Stack: Revit MEP, AutoCAD, Amtech Pro, ETAP, Forma, ACC, BIM 360, Common Data Environment
What You’ll Actually Do
• Design LV Systems: Independently produce primary Low Voltage (LV) design elements, including load schedules, distribution board and switchboard layouts, circuit designs, and power distribution single-line diagrams.
• Execute LV Calculations: Perform all required LV calculations such as cable sizing, voltage drop, short-circuit fault levels, protection coordination, and diversity calculations based on applicable national/regional standards.
• Manage Project Deliverables & Quality: Prepare, self-check, and review project deliverables including design reports, specifications, drawings, and equipment schedules for accuracy and compliance with standards.
• Coordinate Interdisciplinary Designs: Resolve LV design interfaces with other engineering disciplines, identify clashes, and manage coordination issues independently within Common Data Environment platforms.
• Support Construction & Mentor Junior Staff: Assist with construction-phase activities, respond to RFIs, resolve technical queries, and provide day-to-day guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field, with solid experience in building services electrical engineering focusing on LV systems design.
• Experience: Demonstrated ability to independently deliver primary LV design elements; working knowledge of LV design standards; proficiency in LV calculations (cable sizing, voltage drop, fault level, protection discrimination); proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP; experience providing guidance or task coordination to junior team members.
• Skills: LV systems design, LV calculations, AutoCAD/Revit MEP proficiency, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, clear written and verbal communication.
• Bonus: Professional registration or active pursuit thereof, proficiency in Amtech Pro or ETAP, experience with emergency power systems, familiarity with ELV power supply interfaces, experience with CDE platforms, and EV charging infrastructure design.
