Junior Staff Accountant | Kirby Company

This role is crucial for maintaining the accuracy of the general ledger and ensuring a timely monthly close, providing foundational support to the accounting and financial reporting functions.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Journal Entries: Prepare and post recurring, accrual, prepaid, and adjusting journal entries in Epicor and AS400.
• Close Tasks: Complete assigned monthly close tasks on schedule, typically by business day 5.
• Account Reconciliation: Reconcile bank accounts monthly and various balance sheet accounts, resolving items within 30 days.
• Accounts Receivable: Apply customer payments, maintain the AR aging, and support collections for past-due balances.
• Reporting Support: Prepare Excel schedules and account analyses for management, financial statements, audits, and tax filings.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with an understanding of US GAAP fundamentals and accrual accounting.
• Experience: 0–2 years of general ledger or accounting experience, including relevant internships or co-op experience.
• Skills: Solid Excel basics, comfort learning ERP systems, and demonstrated accuracy, deadline focus, and analytical thinking.
• Bonus: Hands-on experience with Epicor, experience in the manufacturing or distribution industry, or exposure to asset-based lending or borrowing base reporting.
