BUSINESS PLANNING ANALYST SKILLBRIDGE INTERN | Newport News Shipbuilding, A Division of HII

The Tone:
This is an UNPAID internship through the Hire Vets Now (HVN) SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel at Newport News Shipbuilding, located in Newport News, VA. Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, is the largest industrial employer in Virginia with over 25,000 employees. The company is the sole designer, builder, and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines, collaborating at the forefront of technology, manufacturing, and integration of the world’s most powerful naval ships. This internship offers transitioning military personnel a vital opportunity to gain real-world experience and training in business planning, specifically in roles that align with their military background, with the potential for a full-time, regular, and permanent job within the company.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Program: Lead the planning efforts for various organizational activities, ensuring alignment with company objectives and strategic goals.
• Develop: Compile and analyze critical information regarding budget status, workforce levels, equipment availability, and other vital company capabilities to inform decision-making.
• Determine: Actively identify and understand customer requirements, ensuring that all planning initiatives address key stakeholder needs effectively.
• Translate: Convert determined customer requirements into comprehensive and actionable organizational plans, guiding project execution and resource allocation.
• Train & Collaborate: Actively participate in hands-on training for meaningful projects, working closely with an assigned mentor and engaging with senior company leadership to gain invaluable industry insights.

The Must-Haves
• Background: This internship is exclusively for active-duty US Military personnel who are within their final 180 days of active-duty service, participating in the Hire Vets Now (HVN) SkillBridge Program. The program focuses on placing transitioning military into internships that require specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs), along with education and military training similar to their current or previous military jobs.
• Experience: Transitioning Military candidates are eligible to begin applying within their final 12 months of military service. Candidates should possess relevant prior military experience and training that demonstrates a foundation in planning, resource management, or operational analysis, aligning with the responsibilities of a Business Planning Analyst.
• Skills: Proven ability to program and organize the planning efforts of an organization’s activities. Demonstrated capability to develop detailed information on budget status, workforce levels, equipment availability, and other critical company capabilities. Proficiency in determining customer requirements and accurately translating these requirements into comprehensive organizational plans. An active security clearance is a mandatory requirement for this position.
