The Tone:
This is an 11-week paid summer internship program at Werner Enterprises, located at its Corporate Headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska, with some remote and off-site opportunities available. Werner Enterprises is a transportation and logistics company that offers a collaborative and inclusive work environment for interns. This program provides an excellent opportunity to gain real-world accounting experience, bridging classroom knowledge with practical application through dedicated training and exposure to Workday Financials. The role is designed to immerse you into the company’s financial operations and contribute to essential departmental tasks.
The TL;DR

• Mission: To support the preparation of month-end financial statements and assist with quarterly SEC reporting and external auditor reviews.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Aid: Assist in the preparation of month-end financial statements for Werner Enterprises and its subsidiaries.
• Record: Record journal entries for the accrual of revenue and expense.
• Reconcile: Reconcile balance sheet accounts and review individual transactions within assigned general ledger accounts.
• Compile: Compile documentation for quarterly SEC reporting and external auditor review processes.
• Support: Complete various departmental tasks as needed, reporting directly to accounting department upper management.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Accounting major required. Entry-Level.
• Experience: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
• Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Bonus: Completion of introductory tax and accounting coursework preferred.
