Intern – Accounting | Baker Group

The Tone:
This is an internship at Baker Group, located in the Des Moines Metropolitan Area. Baker Group is a 859-person organization that provides comprehensive construction services. This role is crucial for supporting the accounting group by managing various financial functions related to construction projects, ensuring accurate billings, collections, and budget management. It provides essential hands-on experience in a real-world accounting environment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Billing: Assist with preparing contractor tax statements and processing job billings for construction projects.
• Data Entry: Support the input of new jobs, budgets, labor rates, and other essential data into the Spectrum system.
• Reporting: Help review and update Customer Service Representative (CSR) and Overview Reports for assigned project managers’ jobs.
• Accounts Payable: Match purchase orders, pack slips, and all invoices with their corresponding supporting documents.
• Vendor Relations: Assist with the systematic review of vendor statements to ensure accuracy.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Currently pursuing a degree in an accounting field.
• Experience: No specific years of experience required. Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word applications is essential.
• Skills: Effective written and oral communication; strong organizational abilities; keen attention to detail; ethical practice and commitment to confidentiality.
