Market Facing Underwriting Trainee | Zurich North America

The Tone:
This is a full-time internship at Zurich North America, located in Philadelphia, PA (hybrid). This role is crucial for developing future underwriters who will assess complex risks for large and multinational organizations, ensuring the company can effectively negotiate coverage, evaluate exposures, and determine pricing and terms.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Participate in structured, cohort-based onboarding to build foundational underwriting knowledge and strong peer connections.
• Gain firsthand development through job shadowing, mentorship, and real-time coaching.
• Be exposed to live underwriting work, analyzing financials, evaluating risk, and supporting pricing and coverage decisions.
• Transition into a market-facing underwriter role, managing broker relationships and underwriting accounts with increasing independence.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a business-related field, on track to graduate by Spring/Summer 2027. Career level: Entry-Level.
• Experience: No specific years required.
• Skills: Strong analytical skills, intercommunication skills, ability to multi-task and handle multiple priorities, strong organizational skills, negotiation skills.
• Bonus: Previous internship in underwriting or the insurance industry, aptitude for automation and process improvement, intermediate Microsoft Office experience.
