Software Technical Lead | SAIC
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at SAIC, supporting the Department of Defense (DoD) Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD). SAIC is a leading technology integrator providing services and solutions in the defense, space, civilian, and intelligence markets. This position specifically focuses on leading the development and enhancement of critical software applications that serve the OSD customer. The role is important as it ensures the seamless integration and delivery of robust software solutions, provides crucial technical leadership, and cultivates an environment of innovation and collaboration within the development team to meet the evolving needs of the DoD.

• Team: Leads a Development team and collaborates with QA and Operations.
• Mission: To lead, manage, and provide hands-on technical guidance to a Development team, ensuring the delivery and enhancement of software that meets Department of Defense customer requirements.
• Tech Stack: Java, JSP, native JavaScript, scripted code, SQL, GIT, WebLogic, Wildfly, Tomcat.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Leadership: Lead and manage the Development team, setting objectives, reviewing performances, and facilitating growth and training.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Development, QA, and Operations to ensure seamless integration and delivery of software.
• Release Management: Maintain a release management calendar for core services, ensuring alignment across key partners and vendors.
• Technical Guidance: Provide hands-on technical leadership to the Development team, including guidance in system troubleshooting and support.
• Risk Mitigation: Anticipate challenges and mitigate risks related to deployment and operational issues for software applications.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree with fourteen (14) or more years of experience, demonstrating a complete understanding of software engineering principles, theories, and concepts. This role requires an understanding of standard Java servlet web application architecture, and the ability to quickly understand legacy code, tools, and technologies.
• Experience: Five (5) or more years of leadership experience managing and scaling Development teams, coupled with excellent project management skills, including agile methodologies and sprint planning. Candidates must have experience writing code using secure coding practices, experience architecting and building applications, and a working knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle, including application release lifecycle.
• Skills: Fluency in legacy Java, JSP, native JavaScript, and scripted code for web application development; experience with source control in code repositories like GIT; demonstrated experience with complex SQL queries; and working with application servers such as WebLogic, Wildfly, or Tomcat. Requires a strong understanding of Object Oriented Design, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for fostering collaborative environments, and strong analytic and problem-solving abilities.
