Intern, Accounting (Cash Operations) | LendingPoint™

The Tone:
This is an in-office internship, with potential for hybrid work, at LendingPoint. The company operates within the finance sector, specifically dealing with lending and financial services. This role provides practical, hands-on experience within the Accounting team, offering crucial support for daily cash operations and comprehensive financial processes. It is vital for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal policies, and contributing to the overall efficiency and integrity of the finance department through direct involvement in core accounting activities and process improvement initiatives.

• Mission: To provide essential support to the Accounting team by assisting with cash operations, journal entries, and account reconciliations, contributing to accurate financial reporting and process efficiency.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, standard office software

What You’ll Actually Do
• Cash Operations Management: Assist with daily cash receipts and disbursements across operational bank accounts and trust/collection accounts, including loan servicing, distribution, and reserve accounts, while monitoring bank activity and researching unidentified or exception items.
• Financial Recordkeeping: Prepare recurring and non-recurring monthly journal entries in accordance with GAAP and internal accounting policies, maintaining organized, accurate, and audit-ready supporting documentation.
• Account Reconciliation: Assist with monthly balance sheet account reconciliations, specifically cash, trust/collection accounts, prepaids, and accrued liabilities, researching reconciling items and escalating unresolved variances.
• Month-End Close Support: Support day-to-day bookkeeping activities and contribute to month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all tasks are completed within established deadlines.
• Process Improvement & Controls: Participate in ad hoc projects, system implementations, and automation initiatives, and assist in maintaining reconciliation documentation according to internal control requirements.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with strong academic performance and interest in accounting, finance, or related business operations.
• Experience: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and standard office software.
• Skills: Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness with attention to detail, applies logical thinking with analytical skills to financial data, and effectively organizes work to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
• Bonus: Experience with an ERP or general ledger system (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Oracle).
