This role is crucial for handling royalty accounting, primarily focusing on entertainment royalty revenue, and ensuring all related balances are recorded fully, accurately, and promptly, contributing to the modernization of royalty accounting processes.

• Mission: Own and improve entertainment royalty revenue accounting and reporting for third-party partners with precision and efficiency.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Manage entertainment royalty revenue accounting: Calculate, classify, and record entertainment royalty revenue precisely, preparing required journal entries, account reconciliations, and support for business partners.
• Prepare participation and residual reports: Track payments and prepare guarantee statements for third-party partners, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
• Contribute to financial close and controls: Complete month-end and quarter-end tasks, prepare reconciliations, and verify royalty accounting documentation.
• Drive process improvement: Identify and refine manual or repetitive steps in tasks, redesigning, automating, or solidifying improvements to increase efficiency.
• Interpret contract terms and collaborate: Review licensing agreements to ensure royalty accounting aligns with deal terms, working with Finance, Legal, and operations teams to resolve issues.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or demonstrated equivalent experience.
• Experience: 1–3 years of accounting experience, which may include internships.
• Skills: A genuine bias toward continuous improvement with concrete examples; familiarity with US GAAP and internal controls / Sarbanes-Oxley principles; proficiency with Microsoft Excel; adaptability with systems and technology; effective communication.
• Bonus: Interest in Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification; public accounting and/or public company experience; Big Four exposure; experience with revenue recognition (ASC 606) or entertainment revenue accounting (ASC 926); experience reviewing contracts or familiarity with entertainment, media, or licensing accounting; experience with SAP and BlackLine.
