Project Accountant 1 | State of Ohio

The Tone:
This is a full-time or part-time role for the State of Ohio, specifically within the Local Government Services (LGS) Division of the Auditor of State’s office, located in Marion, OH, with travel to specific counties in the Northwest Region. The Auditor of State’s office is responsible for auditing nearly 6,000 public offices across Ohio. This role provides essential financial services, including forecasting and financial analysis, directly supporting the fiscal health and compliance of Ohio’s local government agencies.

• Pay: $30.83 hourly
• Team: Local Government Services (LGS) Division, assisting higher-level LGS employees
• Mission: To provide consulting and fiscal advisory services to local government agencies, ensuring financial stability and compliance.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) preferred

What You’ll Actually Do
• Service Delivery: Assist higher-level LGS employees in delivering a range of local government services, including financial forecasting, GAAP conversion support, and fiscal emergency analysis.
• Information Gathering: Gather necessary financial information and prepare work papers, applying established procedures to client accounts and records.
• Compliance Review: Review completed work with superiors to ensure adherence to local government services procedures adopted by the Auditor of State.
• Report Preparation: Aid in the preparation of local government services reports and other work products under the direction of higher-level LGS employees, participating in discussions with local government officials when accompanied by superiors.
• Procedural Documentation: Support the study and documentation of transaction cycles and accounting procedures, helping clients determine legal and regulatory requirements and preparing working papers to deepen familiarity with client accounting systems.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, with Accounting preferred.
• Experience: Successful completion of at least 16 semester hours or equivalent in accounting or a related field beyond high school level OR possess at least three years’ experience in accounting or a related field.
• Skills: Detail-oriented, organized, reliable, able to work under a time-budget structure, professional oral and written communication, and effective collaboration with individuals at all job levels.
• Bonus: Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and willingness to travel to audit site work locations.
