Financial Compliance Officer | The Nature Conservancy

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at The Nature Conservancy, located in Arusha, Cape Town, or Nairobi. • Mission: Ensures that audit, taxation, return filing, and other operational regulatory compliance requirements within the Africa Region are met.
• Tech Stack: MS Excel, accounting packages, accounting and financial reporting systems, relational databases, general ledger reports

What You’ll Actually Do
• Audit Coordination: Lead and coordinate external, internal, country, donor, tax, statutory, and government regulatory audits, managing auditors and ensuring timely completion of corrective action plans.
• Compliance Oversight: Ensure programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance across the Africa Region.
• Risk Management: Anticipate and identify financial compliance risk issues and challenges, then lead and support the implementation of appropriate solutions across region and country programs.
• Financial Review & Training: Plan and perform regular transaction processing reviews, control reviews, fraud allegation reviews, and compliance assessments, providing recommendations and advisory support to staff and partners on financial compliance, tax, and regulatory matters.
• Regulatory Adherence: Ensure tax and statutory filings, regulatory compliance requirements, and internal financial certifications for the region are made timeously, maintaining current knowledge of local government finance requirements.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Experience: 4 years’ related experience, with specific experience in auditing and tax matters, government regulations for Not-for-Profit Sector, grants, and contracts, and supporting multiple projects across various locations or countries.
• Skills: Technical command of spreadsheet programs (especially MS Excel), accounting packages, financial reporting systems, and general ledger reports; ability to manipulate, analyze, and interpret data.
• Bonus: Professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, or CIA; multi-lingual and/or multi-cultural experience; advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel; non-profit accounting experience; excellent verbal and written communication; strong organizational and interpersonal skills; knowledge of current finance, accounting, and regulatory trends.
