Chief Tax Officer | MidFirst Bank

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at MidFirst Bank, located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This role leads a sophisticated tax function, providing significant technical breadth and access to senior leadership and ownership. The Chief Tax Officer will guide tax strategy and ensure continuity, judgment, and thoughtful leadership for both the bank and the broader family enterprise.

• Mission: To provide primary tax authority and advisory on complex tax planning, compliance, governance, and strategic matters across MidFirst Bank and its broader family enterprise.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Enterprise Tax Strategy and Executive Advisory: Guide overall tax strategy and serve as a primary tax authority and advisor to executive leadership and the family across the bank and broader enterprise.
• Bank Tax Planning and Compliance: Oversee federal and multistate tax compliance, planning, and reporting requirements for MidFirst Bank, ensuring governance and risk management.
• Family Office Tax Planning and Compliance: Manage complex tax planning, compliance, and strategic matters for ultra-high-net-worth family enterprise matters, including wealth transfer, trust, fiduciary, and philanthropic initiatives.
• Department Leadership and Talent Development: Lead, manage, and develop an experienced internal tax team, enhancing departmental processes, documentation, and long-term planning support.
• External Advisor and Cross-Functional Relationship Management: Coordinate with external advisors and collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders across the bank and family office.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Executive-level professional with a CPA required, and a Master’s degree in accounting with a tax concentration or equivalent specialized tax experience preferred. Core domain knowledge includes complex tax planning, compliance, and governance across various entity types and industries, including financial institutions and high-net-worth family structures.
• Experience: 15–25+ years of tax experience advising across multiple entity types and industries, with proven experience leading, managing, and developing tax professionals. Preferred experience includes public accounting, supporting high-net-worth individuals or family office structures, and familiarity with estate, gift, trust, fiduciary, private foundation tax matters, and financial services businesses.
• Skills: Strong knowledge of federal and multistate tax compliance, planning, and reporting requirements; ability to communicate complex tax matters clearly to senior leaders, family office stakeholders, and non-tax audiences; ability to exercise sound judgment in ambiguous situations while balancing technical defensibility, business objectives, cost, risk, and reputation; and ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and apply sound judgment in a complex, confidential environment.
