Staff Accountant | Eataly

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Eataly Corporate. Eataly operates as the world’s largest artisanal Italian food and beverage marketplace, offering guests distinct experiences to eat authentic Italian food at various counters, shop a high-quality selection of Italian, local, and homemade products, and learn through engaging classes. This Staff Accountant position is crucial for supporting Eataly’s core accounting operations, with a primary focus on maintaining financial integrity through balance sheet reconciliations, executing the month-end close efficiently, and contributing to robust financial reporting. The role is designed for a curious and motivated accountant eager to solve problems, investigate complex accounting issues, and help develop more scalable and efficient processes within an evolving finance environment.

• Mission: Support Eataly’s accounting operations by managing balance sheet reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting while improving processes.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Reconcile: Prepare and thoroughly review balance sheet reconciliations, investigate all reconciling items and aged balances to identify root causes, and drive these items through to a complete resolution.
• Close & Analyze: Support the comprehensive monthly close process by preparing journal entries, conducting detailed account analysis, managing accruals and reclassifications, and investigating accounting discrepancies using general ledger activity and system data.
• Improve Processes: Partner closely with the Senior Accounting Manager to document, develop, and continuously improve accounting processes and internal controls, specifically emphasizing the reduction of manual activities and the creation of scalable workflows.
• Collaborate & Audit: Collaborate effectively with various internal stakeholders, including FP&A, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Tax, and Operations teams, to resolve accounting matters, improve financial reporting, and assist with internal and external audits.
• Own & Document: Take full ownership of assigned accounting processes, proactively identifying potential issues, assessing risks, and recognizing opportunities for significant improvement, while also maintaining clear documentation of procedures and controls.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field, demonstrating a strong foundational understanding of general ledger accounting, journal entries, and core financial statement concepts.
• Experience: Possess practical experience in supporting accounting operations and financial reporting activities, with a distinct preference for candidates who have experience in preparing or reviewing balance sheet reconciliations.
• Skills: Exhibit strong analytical and problem-solving abilities necessary to thoroughly investigate complex accounting issues and arrive at well-supported conclusions; demonstrate proficiency in Excel and a genuine interest in applying technology to enhance accounting processes; possess the capability to efficiently manage multiple priorities while consistently maintaining accuracy and meeting critical deadlines; and demonstrate strong communication skills crucial for effective cross-functional collaboration.
• Bonus: Possess a CPA designation or be actively pursuing CPA licensure, showing a commitment to professional accounting standards.
