Staff Accountant | REACH Community Development

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at REACH Community Development, located in Portland, OR (hybrid). REACH is a community development organization focused on creating affordable housing and opportunities for individuals and families to thrive. This Staff Accountant role is crucial for supporting the financial health and operational efficiency of REACH’s real estate portfolio. The position directly contributes to the organization’s mission by ensuring accurate financial administration, compliance, and smooth transitions for housing development projects.

• Mission: Owns accounting and financial administration for the real estate portfolio to ensure compliance and support operational goals.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Yardi (preferred), GAAP (standard)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Administration: Prepare and maintain financial schedules, journal entries, and supporting documentation, assisting with cash management activities.
• Project Funding: Coordinate the recording of property acquisitions, construction, and loan closings, then prepare and process development funding draw requests.
• Month-End Close: Oversee accounts payable for development projects and execute month-end closing procedures including accruals, depreciation, and adjusting entries.
• Audit & Compliance: Prepare audit workpapers, perform general ledger reconciliations, maintain asset and debt schedules, and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
• Strategic Partnership: Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to provide accounting insights and support financial system enhancements.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or an associate degree with at least four years of related experience; this is an Early Career role.
• Experience: At least one to two years of experience in accounting, with a preference for affordable housing and development accounting experience.
• Skills: Strong understanding of GAAP, development accounting, and financial reconciliation practices; intermediate or advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and follow-through; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Bonus: Experience with Yardi accounting software preferred.
