Corporate Accounting Intern | Southwire Company

This is an internship at Southwire Company, located in Atlanta, GA. Southwire is one of North America’s largest producers of wire and cable, also manufacturing utility products, metal-clad cable, and providing digital solutions and field services. This Corporate Accounting Intern role offers valuable, real-world application of academic studies for students transitioning into professional work. The intern will be instrumental in supporting the company’s lease accounting transformation, helping centralize accounting processes and migrate data to a new software platform, thereby directly impacting the organization’s future.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Data Migration: Prepare, cleanse, organize, and validate lease data for migration to the new lease accounting software.
• Reconciliation: Reconcile source data to lease agreements, accounting records, and system reports, investigating and documenting differences.
• System Testing: Execute defined system and user acceptance test scenarios, documenting results, defects, and follow-up items.
• Process Documentation: Assist in developing process documentation, standard operating procedures, and control support for centralized lease accounting.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with Corporate Accounting and cross-functional stakeholders to gather information and resolve data or process issues.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level; currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field, with completion of introductory accounting coursework. Minimum 3.0 GPA.
• Experience: Experience working with structured data and large data sets, demonstrating strong attention to detail and data accuracy. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for sorting, filtering, lookups, and basic data validation.
• Skills: Ability to analyze discrepancies, ask thoughtful questions, follow issues through resolution, work effectively both independently and as part of a team, and possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Bonus: Exposure to lease accounting or ASC 842, and experience with Power Query or other data tools.
