Actuarial Summer Internship 2027 | Howden Group

The Tone:
This is a 10-week summer internship at Howden Re, located in London. Howden is a global insurance group distinguished by its employee ownership and a shared passion for pushing the boundaries of insurance across 56 countries. This role is crucial for an Actuarial team that helps businesses understand risk, make informed decisions, and prepare for an unpredictable future by turning data into real insight.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Data Analysis: Analyse large datasets to uncover meaningful insights for client projects.
• Risk Management: Learn how (re)insurance works and how risk is priced, transferred, and managed.
• Model Development: Support the development of actuarial models and simulations.
• Client Reporting: Help prepare client-ready presentations and reports.
• Client Engagement: Attend client meetings and gain exposure to the full actuarial lifecycle.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Be in your penultimate year of study from a numerate degree background, such as Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Economics or related discipline.
• Experience: Achieved an A grade or above in A-level Mathematics or equivalent. Must have the full and unrestricted right to work in the UK.
• Skills: Genuine interest in (re)insurance, actuarial science and risk; ability to analyse information and solve complex problems; clear communication of ideas and translation of complex information for non-technical audiences; eagerness to learn, take initiative and contribute to a team.
• Bonus: Experience with programming such as Python, R and VBA is beneficial but not essential.
