Tax Associate – Level I | Cummins

This role is vital for ensuring the efficient coordination of tax department production, maintaining accurate tax compliance, and supporting the financial integrity of the organization.

• Mission: To coordinate tax department production, ensure compliance with direct tax regulations, and provide essential administrative support to the tax staff.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Coordinate tax department production: Oversee the coordination of all Tax Department production activities, including populating budget hours, monitoring tax jobs, following up with preparers and managers, and generating production reports.
• Manage direct tax compliance workflows: Participate in tax department workflow procedures covering tax return processing and assembly, e-files, document scanning and uploading, routings, rejections, reports, and deadlines.
• Perform TDS/TCS and broader compliance: Execute TDS/TCS compliance tasks such as monthly health checks, ensuring correct liability discharge, supporting return filings, and resolving supplier queries, while also managing end-to-end direct tax compliances including advance tax, tax audit, and income tax return filings.
• Prepare tax computations and provisions: Develop and review corporate tax computations, deferred tax workings, and tax provisions essential for accurate financial reporting.
• Support tax assessments and audits: Assist in completing income tax assessments, reassessments, appeals, and handling notices from tax authorities, coordinating closely with internal stakeholders and external consultants for compliance and litigation matters.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-level direct tax professional with a two-year University degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field, or semi-qualified CA/CWA, possessing knowledge of income tax compliance, return filing, tax assessments, and tax research.
• Experience: 3-4 years of relevant experience in TDS/TCS compliance, end-to-end direct tax compliances including advance tax and tax audits, corporate tax computations, and assisting with income tax assessments and departmental proceedings.
• Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to build networks and collaborate effectively; ensures accountability for commitments; sound understanding of financial internal controls; actively seeks self-development and nimble learning.
• Bonus: Hands-on experience working with the Oracle accounting system.
