Software Project Manager & Engagement Lead (Defense Mission Software) | General Dynamics Information Technology
The Tone:
This is a regular, full-time hybrid role at General Dynamics Information Technology, located in Falls Church, VA. GDIT delivers technology solutions and mission services to every major agency across the U.S. government, defense, and intelligence community. This role is crucial for leading high-impact software modernization efforts for the Defense Division, driving the delivery of mission-critical software solutions, and advancing strategic initiatives like AI/ML, Software Factories, and Model-Based Systems Engineering.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Lead: Spearhead strategic Defense mission software engagements, including executive briefings, out-briefs, and fact-based decision narratives.
• Control: Maintain transparent program control measures like product backlogs, roadmaps, and costs to build trust with senior stakeholders.
• Deliver: Ensure the delivery of mission-relevant software releases or software-enabled services on a predictable cadence with measurable value.
• Partner: Collaborate with Capability Team Leaders to mature management practices for AI/Software development/DevSecOps/MBSE, sustaining velocity and quality.
• Orchestrate: Direct cross-functional team Agile delivery, manage roadmaps, backlogs, release plans, and report progress against established plans.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a Business-related field; with 15+ years of progressive technical and leadership experience in digital modernization efforts.
• Experience: 15+ years leading multiple software delivery programs for mission-critical systems, including multi-team Agile programs with strong governance. Demonstrated ability to brief executives, facilitate CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices, and translate software outcomes into roadmaps and release plans.
• Skills: Agile Delivery, Agile Methodology, Product Management, Project Planning, Software Projects
• Bonus: DoW acquisition lifecycle familiarity, MBSE tooling (e.g., Cameo), secure cloud (AWS/Azure) and platform practices, AI/ML program considerations (risk, policy, ATO), and prior work with USAF/USSF/Navy/Army/COCOM/Joint programs. PMP, SAFe SPC, and/or Scrum Master (CSM/Advanced CSM/SSM or similar) certifications are required; PMI‑ACP, Product Owner/Product Manager (PSPO/CSPO/POPM), SAFe Agilist (SA), ITIL 4 Foundation are preferred.
