Head of Product – Personal Banking | Mercury
The Tone:
This is a full-time leadership role at Mercury. The company is building personal banking products designed to seamlessly fit into the lives of the people using them. This role is crucial for setting the product strategy, leading a team, and driving the growth and engagement of Mercury’s personal banking offerings. The focus is on creating a user experience so intuitive and helpful that it becomes an essential part of a customer’s financial life.

• Mission: Own the end-to-end product strategy, growth, engagement, and business performance for Mercury’s personal banking offerings.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Strategy & Ownership: Own the personal banking product end-to-end, defining the metrics, strategy, and propositions across personal money management, banking, savings, investments, and future lending.
• Craft & Experience: Set a high bar for product craft, meticulously refining details like copy, latency, and empty states to ensure the consumer product feels inevitable rather than merely adequate.
• Team Leadership: Recruit, lead, and scale a high-performing product management team, instilling strong build discipline and developing future leaders with a culture that balances pace and quality.
• Business Growth: Drive acquisition, activation, and retention for personal banking, owning the compounding loops and strategically connecting it to Mercury’s existing business services.
• Trust & Reliability: Make reliability and trust integral product features, directly owning and being measured on uptime, correctness, latency, and support outcomes.
The Must-Haves
• Background: A seasoned consumer product leader demonstrating excellent taste and a track record of building successful products for millions of users. Possesses exceptional cross-functional leadership capabilities across engineering, design, data, risk, compliance, and partners.
• Experience: 10+ years building consumer products, including significant time owning product growth and economics beyond just roadmap delivery. Includes 5+ years leading product managers, encompassing hiring, coaching, and organizational design. Proven ability to launch and scale 0-1 products while also operating established products with real customers.
• Skills: An exceptionally high bar for product craft, coupled with a customer-centered, data-driven, and experimentation-oriented approach. Experience shipping AI-led products to consumers with informed opinions on AI’s potential and limitations. Demonstrates sound judgment within regulated environments, balancing delightful experiences with necessary banking controls.
• Bonus: Prior experience in banking, payments, or the broader fintech industry.
