Senior Financial Data Reconciliation Analyst | Mercury

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Mercury, located remotely within the US or Canada. Mercury is dedicated to building a complete finance stack for startups, striving to provide the easiest and safest banking experience to simplify financial lives. This role is crucial for ensuring the integrity of Mercury’s financial system by tracking transactions across partner banks and internal systems, protecting customer funds through rigorous reconciliation, and scaling these processes.

• Team: Financial Data Reconciliation team
• Mission: Operationalize, standardize, and scale reconciliation across Mercury’s banking partners and internal systems to protect customer funds.
• Tech Stack: SQL, dbt (or similar), Blackline (or similar), Omni, Looker, Tableau

What You’ll Actually Do
• Design: Own the design and implementation of end-to-end reconciliations for new and existing products and funds flows, setting team standards.
• Develop: Develop and maintain data transformations, enrichment logic, and matching rules that support accurate and scalable reconciliation.
• Investigate: Monitor and investigate reconciliation exceptions, leading root-cause analysis and coordinating resolutions with various partners.
• Report: Build monitoring, alerting, and reporting to surface reconciliation risks, trends, and improvement opportunities across the team’s portfolio.
• Define: Define reconciliation requirements and technical specifications for new products and funds flows, partnering early in the design process.
• Mentor: Mentor other analysts through hands-on coaching, helping them strengthen their technical and investigative skills.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Senior-level professional with 6+ years of experience working with complex transactional and financial data in fintech or financial services.
• Experience: 6+ years in areas such as reconciliation, settlement, payment operations, and accounting, including working knowledge of banking payment rails and card networks like ACH, wire transfers, RTP, FedNow, Visa, and Mastercard; a track record of leading cross-functional initiatives; and experience mentoring or developing other analysts.
• Skills: Advanced SQL skills, hands-on experience developing and maintaining data transformation pipelines (e.g., dbt or similar), strong analytical skills for resolving complex financial data discrepancies, and experience building monitoring or BI dashboards using tools such as Omni, Looker, or Tableau.
• Bonus: Experience supporting audits, regulatory reporting, or financial-control testing.
