Director, Scientific Communications and Strategic Advancement- Immunology and Immunotherapy | Mount Sinai Health System

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Mount Sinai Health System, located in New York, NY. Mount Sinai is a leading academic medical system focused on advancing precision approaches to immune-mediated, malignant, and complex human disease through genomics, immunology, cancer biology, data science, and translational research. This high-impact, institution-facing role is crucial for defining a clear public voice, media presence, donor narrative, and strategic platform for interconnected initiatives in genomics, autoimmunity, cancer, and immunotherapy. The Director will communicate scientific and clinical impact across various audiences to elevate Mount Sinai’s leadership in these critical areas.

• Team: Works with institute and center leadership, Mount Sinai faculty, institutional communications, development teams, clinical partners, and external stakeholders.
• Mission: This person will define the public voice, media presence, donor narrative, and strategic platform for Mount Sinai’s interconnected initiatives in genomics, autoimmunity, cancer, and immunotherapy.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Strategic Communications and Visibility: Develop and execute a cohesive communications strategy to advance the reputation and identity of key Mount Sinai institutes and efforts, shaping core messaging for various platforms and positioning leadership as trusted voices.
• Thought Leadership and Opportunity Building: Proactively identify opportunities to elevate programs through media stories, articles, scientific meetings, donor briefings, and public engagement to establish Mount Sinai as a leader in disease understanding and prevention.
• Grants, Initiatives, and Strategic Proposals: Lead or substantially contribute to the writing and development of large grants, center and institute proposals, philanthropic proposals, and institutional strategic documents, translating complex scientific vision into persuasive narratives.
• Presentation and Advancement Materials: Create high-quality materials such as pitch decks, presentations, annual reports, briefing documents, and website language for leadership, donors, advisory boards, and external audiences, while maintaining a library of core assets.
• Philanthropy, External Engagement, and Infrastructure: Partner with the Office of Development to articulate program vision, priorities, and funding needs to donors, developing all donor-facing communications and building systems to consistently capture and communicate scientific and clinical impact.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree required, with strong experience in scientific, medical, or academic communications at a Director level.
• Experience: 5 years of experience in health care finance or administration, coupled with strong experience in strategic planning and execution.
• Skills: Exceptional writing and editing skills, ability to translate complex biomedical research into compelling narratives, strategic thinking, proactive building, and strong editorial judgment.
• Bonus: Master’s degree or PhD preferred. Experience with large grants, strategic proposals, philanthropic materials, media strategy, social media, and presentation development is strongly preferred. Familiarity with genomics, immunology, oncology, autoimmunity, immunotherapy, or precision medicine is highly desirable.
