The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Cardinal Senior Living, located primarily on-site in the Grand Rapids office. Cardinal Senior Living is undergoing significant growth, actively acquiring communities and developing the foundational infrastructure necessary to support a much larger organization. This expansion creates a unique opportunity for an early-career accountant to learn the technical aspects of accounting while deeply understanding how financial numbers connect to real business operations. The role is designed for someone eager to contribute early, grow rapidly, and take on increasing responsibility as the company scales its mission to provide dignity, safety, and care to elderly residents.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Manage core general ledger accounting and prepare accurate journal entries for multiple communities.
• Execute comprehensive reconciliations, including bank, cash, balance sheet, and fixed-asset accounts.
• Provide essential support for month-end and year-end close processes, including financial reporting and variance research.
• Collaborate directly with community and corporate partners to investigate and resolve missing or inconsistent financial information.
• Contribute to robust documentation, internal control adherence, and audit support, ensuring accounting continuity during company expansion and new acquisitions.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. Candidates must possess a foundational understanding of GAAP, including debits and credits, journal entries, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, accrual concepts, and basic financial statements.
• Experience: This is an an early-career opportunity that values learning agility over extensive prior experience. Comfort and proficiency in using Microsoft Excel, specifically with formulas, formatting, sorting, and filtering, are essential.
• Skills: Strong attention to accuracy, disciplined documentation practices, strict adherence to established processes, and reliable execution of tasks to meet deadlines. The ability to recognize potential financial risks and effectively solve problems is crucial for success.
• Bonus: Prior experience with Sage Intacct accounting software is considered helpful but is not a mandatory requirement for this position.
