Staff Accountant | Orbis

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Orbis, located in McLean, VA, operating on a hybrid schedule with one day per week in the office. Orbis Operations is a technology company dedicated to delivering sovereign intelligence and decision capabilities to the United States Government and its allies. They build working capabilities from experienced practitioners, not consulting. This Staff Accountant role is crucial for ensuring the financial accuracy and operational efficiency of a growing finance team, directly supporting the company’s mission to provide decisive outcomes in a contested world.

The TL;DR

• Mission: Own the accurate recording and reconciliation of financial transactions to support Orbis’s overall financial health and operational integrity within a government contracting framework.
• Tech Stack: Deltek Costpoint, Microsoft Office Suite, Excel

What You’ll Actually Do
• General Ledger: Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness across all financial records.
• Journal Entries: Prepare and post journal entries accurately and on time, reflecting all business transactions correctly.
• Accounts Payable: Process vendor invoices and ensure timely and accurate payments, maintaining accurate vendor records.
• Financial Close: Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, contributing to timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Bank Reconciliations: Perform monthly bank reconciliations and promptly resolve discrepancies to ensure financial integrity.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, equipping you with the foundational knowledge to perform a wide range of accounting functions.
• Experience: 2–5 years of hands-on accounting experience across multiple functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations, with a critical minimum of 2 years of recent direct experience utilizing Deltek Costpoint.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data analysis and financial reporting; strong attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain audit-ready records; and excellent written and verbal communication skills for internal and external interactions.
• Bonus: Prior experience operating within a government contracting environment; familiarity with the specific requirements of FAR/DFARS cost accounting standards relevant to government contracts.
