Junior Staff Accountant | Holt’s Cigar Company Inc

The Tone:

The Junior Staff Accountant plays a foundational role in this effort, directly contributing to the accurate maintenance, preparation, and reconciliation of critical financial documents and accounts. This position is essential for ensuring precise financial reporting, supporting compliance with tax regulations, and assisting with audit preparations, all while contributing to the overall efficiency of the accounting department.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Record Management: Prepare and record journal entries, maintain accounting files, and assist with monthly closing duties, account analysis, and special projects.
• Cash and Sales Processing: Process and reconcile retail store sales and cash receipts, prepare bank deposits, and maintain detailed cash sheets, including reconciliation to bank statements.
• Transaction and Dispute Resolution: Settle and record daily credit card and/or PayPal transactions on cash sheets, maintain deposit spreadsheets, and efficiently settle all related disputes.
• Tax Compliance and Reporting: Prepare and reconcile various state and local tobacco tax filings, as well as state sales and use tax filings, ensuring accurate and timely submission.
• Account Reconciliation and Audit Support: Reconcile various balance sheet accounts by compiling and balancing financial information, review expense reports for payment disbursement, and assist with the coordination and preparation of materials for financial audits.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Possess a Bachelor’s Degree (BS or BA) in Accounting, Finance, or Business, coupled with a broad understanding of basic accounting principles for this entry-level role.
• Experience: 0-2 years of professional accounting experience, ideally including familiarity with ERP accounting systems.
• Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word); demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize assignments with minimal oversight; strong problem-solving and analytical skills; excellent capacity for time management; superior communication, listening, and interpersonal skills; self-motivated and possesses the drive to succeed.
• Bonus: Prior experience with ERP accounting systems such as Dynamics AX and/or Dynamics D365 is a significant advantage.
