The Tone:
This is an internship at CoBank, located in Denver, CO, operating under a hybrid work model. CoBank is a cooperative bank dedicated to serving vital industries across rural America, providing financial services, loans, leases, and export financing to agribusinesses, rural power, water, and communications providers. As an intern, you will gain real-life exposure to daily duties, learn essential business skills, and contribute to projects that directly impact the bank’s operations. This role is crucial for supporting the finance team and will involve completing a capstone project designed to add significant value to your team, all while developing a strong foundation in accounting practices.

The TL;DR

• Mission: Support the finance team by ensuring financial accuracy and contributing to reporting, while developing a strong foundation in accounting practices.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Journal Entries: Prepare monthly journal entries for various revenue, expense, and balance sheet accounts.
• Account Reconciliation: Coordinate monthly reconciliation and maintenance of asset, liability, and equity accounts.
• Financial Processing: Process accounts payable and assist with accounts receivable.
• Reporting Generation: Generate general ledger close reports and compile other essential accounting reports.
• Financial Reporting Support: Contribute to quarterly financial reporting by performing tie-outs, quality reviews, and maintaining checklists.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in and working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or a related discipline, and in good academic standing. This is an entry-level position.
• Experience: No prior professional experience required, but applicants must be students with expected graduation dates between December 2027 and May 2029.
• Skills: Understanding of accounting practices, financial accuracy, external financial reporting, regulatory reporting, GAAP, and internal control requirements.
