Accounting Intern | GreatAmerica
The Tone:
This is an internship with hybrid work arrangements at GreatAmerica, located in Cedar Rapids, IA. GreatAmerica Financial Services is a highly successful entrepreneurial company providing equipment financing to businesses across the United States, distinguished by its exemplary customer service, principle-centered business philosophy, and team-based operating approach. This role offers hands-on experience, mentorship from seasoned professionals, and the opportunity to independently manage recurring responsibilities within a collaborative Accounting team. The Accounting Intern will contribute significantly to meaningful financial work, strengthening their accounting knowledge, developing practical Excel skills, and gaining capabilities applicable to their academic pursuits and future career opportunities.

• Mission: Contribute to meaningful accounting work and independently own recurring responsibilities within the Accounting team to support GreatAmerica’s financial operations and growth.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Account Reconciliation: Perform general ledger account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Month-End Closing: Actively participate in the critical month-end closing procedures.
• Audit Support: Assist the team with tasks related to the annual financial statement audit.
• Operational Reporting: Prepare and audit recurring operational reports.
• External Reporting: Prepare monthly reporting for various external customer programs.
• Strategic Participation: Contribute to Accounting team strategic initiatives.
• Customer Service: Provide an outstanding GreatAmerica experience to all customers.
The Must-Haves
• Background: This role is for individuals currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Accounting, making it an Entry-Level internship. Candidates are expected to have a strong foundational understanding of accounting principles, reflected by a minimum GPA of 3.25 in their studies.
• Experience: No prior professional work experience is required for this internship; however, previous internships or work experience within finance or accounting fields will be considered beneficial.
• Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Excel for various accounting tasks and data management; a strong ability to focus on details and ensure accuracy in financial data and reports; excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective team collaboration and customer interactions; demonstrated initiative, a proactive approach to challenges, and a strong desire to continuously learn and develop accounting capabilities; and sound business judgment to navigate responsibilities effectively.
• Bonus: Prior internships or work experience within finance or accounting.
