Tax Manager, Core Tax Services | BDO

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at BDO, located in multiple U.S. locations. BDO provides professional services, advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives and ensuring compliance. This role is crucial for applying tax knowledge to minimize client tax burdens, reduce compliance costs, and manage complex tax issues as a primary client contact.

• Mission: Own advising clients on tax implications, minimizing tax burdens, ensuring compliance, and managing complex tax issues for their business objectives.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office Suite, tax research databases, tax compliance process software

What You’ll Actually Do
• Client Advisory: Advise clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and compliance costs, and acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues.
• Compliance & Review: Ensure clients and service teams comply with all applicable authorities and firm policies, conduct top-level reviews of tax returns, and resolve identified tax issues with clients.
• Team Leadership: Supervise, review work, train, schedule workload, and provide performance feedback to associates and senior associates, also acting as a Career Advisor.
• Business Development: Engage in marketing, networking, and business development within an area of expertise and specialization, and introduce new ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel.
• Specialized Research & Consulting: Identify when research is needed, frame issues, apply firm standards for written tax advice, and assist with developing and implementing efficient methods to maximize client tax benefits.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree (major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferred), and required CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA). This is a Manager-level position.
• Experience: Five (5) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience, with prior supervisory experience required.
• Skills: Superior verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills, ability to effectively delegate work, and capable of developing and managing a team of tax professionals.
• Bonus: Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation, possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role, industry expertise in one or more tax specialties, proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software.
