Global Employee Relations Advisor | Mercy Corps

The Tone:
This is a full-time, exempt, regular role at Mercy Corps, remotely based in any country where Mercy Corps is registered. The Global Employee Relations Advisor is critical in maintaining consistent application of policies and best practices within a complex international environment.

• Team: ER2 Center of Excellence (COE) within the People function, reporting directly to the Senior Director Organizational Resilience and Innovation.
• Mission: To provide comprehensive employee relations support, manage ER cases, and offer policy guidance across Mercy Corps’ global operations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• ER Case Management: Manage and provide comprehensive support for employee relations cases delegated to the ER2 COE, from intake through resolution, ensuring consistent application of policies and procedures across assigned global regions.
• System Administration & Reporting: Support the implementation and ongoing administration of the HR Acuity case management system, including rolling out workflows to country teams, ensuring data integrity, and generating reports on ER case trends and metrics for leadership.
• Separation & Termination Coordination: Draft, review, and coordinate expat separation agreements for redundancy situations and ER-related terminations, partnering closely with the Legal Team and guiding regional teams on consistent application of processes.
• Legal Case Tracking & Collaboration: Map, track, and maintain a comprehensive database of all legal cases across Mercy Corps’ global operations, providing regular status updates and collaborating with Legal and People Teams to implement recommendations and identify trends.
• Training & Capacity Building: Support the delivery of ER training programs, including Train-the-Trainer sessions, and assist in developing and updating training materials, toolkits, and standard operating procedures for global People Team practitioners.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required for this global advisory role, with a Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience: A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Employee Relations or HR generalist roles with significant ER exposure is essential, including demonstrated experience in ER case management from intake to resolution.
• Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary to effectively interact across diverse cultures, alongside knowledge of employment law principles applicable across multiple jurisdictions and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
• Bonus: Fluency in Spanish, French, or Arabic is highly recommended, as is previous experience with HR case management systems like HR Acuity, working in the field within different cultural contexts, or holding a professional HR certification (SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR).
