Junior Staff Accountant | Bates White Economic Consulting

• Mission: Support the firm’s financial operations, contributing to accurate monthly reporting and reconciliation processes through accounts payable and general ledger functions.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounts Payable Management: Review employee expense reimbursements and vendor invoices for appropriate general ledger and project ledger coding, then assist with the preparation of weekly payment files.
• Vendor and Employee Support: Help resolve discrepancies with vendors, support the payments reconciliation process, and assist with accounts payable inquiries from both vendors and employees.
• General Ledger & Close Activities: Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations as part of the monthly financial close process, and support the monthly AP close and account reconciliations.
• Fixed Assets & Compliance: Maintain fixed assets module records and depreciation schedules, and assist with Form 1099 reconciliation.
• Audit & System Support: Compile supporting schedules for annual audits, fulfill ad hoc analysis requests, and assist with accounting system upgrade testing.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; understanding of general accounting principles.
• Experience: 0-2 years of accounting experience, and experience working with Microsoft Office, especially Outlook and Excel.
• Skills: Strong attention to detail and accuracy, excellent problem-solving skills, ability to handle confidential information with integrity, effective communication and interpersonal skills, strong mathematical abilities, and an analytical mindset.
• Bonus: Internships or prior accounts payable and general ledger experience.
