Accountant I | PrimeWay Federal Credit Union

The Tone:
This is an entry-level accounting role at PrimeWay Federal Credit Union. PrimeWay provides essential financial services to its members, and this position is crucial for maintaining accurate and compliant financial records. The Accountant I contributes to the integrity of financial operations by ensuring the timely processing of transactions and meticulous reconciliation of accounts. This role directly supports the credit union’s financial health and operational efficiency.

• Mission: Owns the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, general ledger reconciliations, and supports month-end close and financial reporting for the credit union.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounts Payable Processing: Accurately and timely process vendor invoices, payment requests, expense reports, and approved disbursements, ensuring proper coding, supporting documentation, required approvals, and compliance with all organizational policies and procedures.
• Vendor Account Management: Maintain accurate vendor records and account balances by reconciling vendor statements, actively researching and resolving any discrepancies, responding to vendor inquiries, and ensuring the timely payment of all obligations.
• General Ledger Reconciliation: Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts, diligently investigating, analyzing, and resolving all reconciling items to ensure the complete accuracy and integrity of financial records.
• Month-End and Year-End Support: Prepare and post necessary journal entries, support schedules, detailed account analyses, and other critical documentation required for efficient month-end and year-end close processes and comprehensive financial reporting.
• Audit and Compliance Support: Maintain highly organized accounting records and provide essential support for internal and external audits, examinations, regulatory reviews, and internal control compliance efforts.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A four-year degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, or equivalent related experience, coupled with fundamental knowledge of general accounting concepts and principles.
• Experience: No specific years of experience are required; however, prior experience in accounting, accounts payable, or financial operations is preferred.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and Teams; strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills; and effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Bonus: The ability to function as a self-starter, work effectively under general supervision, consistently deliver accurate work within established deadlines, and adapt to changing workflows.
