Real Estate Staff Accountant | AIR Communities

The Tone:
This is a full-time, in-office role at AIR Communities, located in the Denver Tech Center, Denver, CO. AIR Communities is one of the country’s largest owners and operators of multifamily housing, managing high-quality communities across the country. This role is crucial for an ambitious accounting professional to contribute meaningful work, ensure financial accuracy, and support business decisions from day one within a sophisticated real estate accounting environment.

• Mission: Maintain accurate and reliable financial records and reporting to support operational and financial decision-making.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Month-End Close: Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, reclassifications, and prepaid expenses, to support timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
• Reconciliations: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies, and managing debt-related schedules.
• Financial Reporting: Perform actual-to-budget and actual-to-forecast variance analysis, preparing financial analyses and reports that provide insights for business decisions.
• Asset Management: Maintain fixed asset, intangible asset, and prepaid expense records, ensuring proper classification and tracking while recording monthly depreciation and amortization.
• Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams to gather information, improve accounting processes, and build strong working relationships by providing internal customer service.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Experience: Internship experience, public accounting experience, or 1-3 years of relevant accounting experience, including preparing journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, and account reconciliations.
• Skills: Strong Microsoft Excel skills, excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, with outstanding attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Bonus: Experience performing budget-to-actual or forecast variance analysis, debt accounting, real estate accounting experience, familiarity with SmartView or Workday Financials, or interest in pursuing professional accounting certifications (CPA track).
