Director, Contract/Pay Relations | Mayo Clinic
The Tone:
This is a hybrid position at Mayo Clinic, requiring residency within 100 miles of the Jacksonville, FL campus for occasional on-site work. Mayo Clinic is a world-renowned medical center dedicated to patient care, research, and education, operating as a consensus-driven, collaborative culture. This role is crucial for expanding patient access to Mayo Clinic Florida services by cultivating strategic relationships with payers and employers, ultimately advancing enterprise objectives and market performance.

• Team: Reports to the Core Contracting/Specialty Contracting Revenue Strategy and Innovation (RSI) Division Chair or Senior Director; partners with RSI Medical Directors, Senior Directors, Managers, Analytics, and cross-site/cross-functional RSI teams.
• Mission: Develop and advance strategic relationships with payers and employers to expand patient access to Mayo Clinic Florida services.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Contract Leadership: Lead the negotiation and management of payer and specialty contracts for assigned organizations and collaborate on negotiations with other key payers.
• Partnership Development: Build, strengthen, and optimize strategic partnerships with external payer and employer organizations, serving as a core member of the Contracting and Payer Relations (CPR) team.
• Issue Resolution: Provide strategic oversight of external payer and employer engagement to proactively identify, address, and resolve operational and contractual issues.
• Market Performance: Lead the design and execution of initiatives that enhance market performance and practice yield, as directed by RSI leadership.
• Strategic Guidance: Advise Mayo Clinic leadership on contract provisions, reimbursement trends, and evolving payer and employer market dynamics, serving as an institutional subject matter expert.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Master’s degree in business, healthcare, or other related field required and 10 years of finance management experience with a progressive organization. (In lieu of a master’s degree, a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field plus 12 years of finance management experience with progressive responsibilities).
• Experience: Must have legal contract structure, content, and health insurance marketplace experience. Requires broad experience and proven knowledge of corporate benefit options, insurance industry standards, payer payment methodologies, managed care concepts, health care finance fundamentals, medical terminology, third-party billing, payment, and collection principles.
• Skills: Superior skills in leadership, relationship management, verbal and written communications, organization, and decision-making. Ability to work collaboratively with multiple disciplines and manage multiple tasks concurrently, demonstrating a positive attitude and strong persuasive skills.
• Bonus: Prefer experience with implementing major organizational change, including significant contract or operational redesign and other operational efficiency improvements as payer dynamics have changed. Prefer experience in healthcare administration, preferably within an academic center or mid/large integrated medical center. Authorization to work and remain in the United States without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorships.
