Accounting Associate | Claims Conference

The Tone:
This is a hybrid Accounting Associate role at Claims Conference, located in Manhattan, NY, requiring two days in-office. The Claims Conference is a global non-profit organization with offices across New York, Israel, Germany, and Austria, dedicated to securing material compensation for Holocaust survivors worldwide and preserving the memory of the Holocaust through various initiatives. As an Accounting Associate on the RED team within the Allocations Department, this role is crucial for providing essential grant-related financial analysis and administrative support. Your work will directly enable the accurate and compliant distribution of significant funds to organizations that provide welfare, education, and documentation for Holocaust survivors globally, honoring history while making history.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Review grant program budgets for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to established guidelines.
• Thoroughly analyze grant reports and payment requests, ensuring financial accuracy and strict budgetary compliance before processing.
• Perform detailed analysis and conversion of expenses submitted in multiple currencies and languages to standardize financial data.
• Utilize advanced Excel functionalities, including formulas and pivot tables, to conduct comprehensive analysis of budget and expense reports.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with assigned Program Officers to provide financial insights and support for grant-related activities, as well as completing other assigned tasks.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or equivalent professional work experience.
• Experience: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including experience analyzing data and creating spreadsheets in Excel.
• Skills: Strong quantitative aptitude for financial data interpretation and analysis; Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all financial reviews and reporting; Proven analytical, time management, and organizational abilities to manage multiple priorities efficiently; Excellent written and verbal English communication skills for clear and concise reporting and interaction; Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with Program Officers and other team members.
• Bonus: Prior knowledge of accounting or bookkeeping principles.
