Accounting Technician | University of Southern California

The Tone:
This is a hybrid role at the University of Southern California, located in Alhambra, California. The Keck School of Medicine’s Physician Assistant Program trains future PAs through excellence in education, research, clinical practice, and community service. This role is crucial for supporting the program’s financial and administrative operations. The Accounting Technician ensures smooth financial processes and compliance with university policies, enabling the program to achieve its mission.

• Mission: Ensure accurate financial operations, compliance, and support for the Physician Assistant Program.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Maintain financial records: Establish and manage accounts, ledgers, and supporting documentation for the department.
• Process financial transactions: Prepare and execute various accounting documents such as purchase requests, journal entries, expense transfers, and budget amendments.
• Reconcile accounts: Perform regular reconciliations of departmental accounts, investigate discrepancies, and generate financial reports.
• Monitor budgets: Track departmental budgets, expenditures, fund balances, receivables, and outstanding transactions to ensure financial health.
• Provide financial support: Offer essential financial information and technical assistance to faculty, staff, students, and university departments.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field; combined education and experience accepted. Solid understanding of accounting principles, bookkeeping practices, and financial recordkeeping.
• Experience: 1-2 years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or financial operations, including practical use of accounting software, financial systems, databases, and Microsoft Excel.
• Skills: Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills; strong written and verbal communication; ability to maintain confidentiality; manage multiple priorities; work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
• Bonus: Prior accounting experience in a university or higher education setting; familiarity with USC financial systems; advanced Microsoft Excel skills; strong customer service and collaborative approach.
