Accounts Assistant | State of Missouri

The Tone:
This is a second-level vocational position at the State of Missouri, located in St. Louis, MO, at the Forensic Treatment Center – South. This center operates under the Missouri Department of Mental Health, an organization dedicated to the prevention, treatment, and public understanding of mental illness and developmental disabilities. As an Accounts Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the financial accuracy and compliance necessary for the center’s smooth operation by completing standard accounting tasks using established processes, procedures, and regulations. What You’ll Actually Do
• Payroll Management: Process time records for regular payroll, overtime, and payoffs, meticulously reviewing reports and time records for accuracy and maintaining robust financial processes.
• Compliance Tracking: Maintain detailed spreadsheets on various employee-related accounts, including leave balances, part-time employees, administrative leave, and worker compensation appointments, to ensure adherence to established policies.
• Financial Account Reconciliation: Balance and maintain the incoming funds check log as well as the revolving funds account, carefully reviewing financial documents to determine the accuracy of figures.
• Discrepancy Resolution: Identify and investigate discrepancies within financial documents and accounts, then take appropriate corrective action to resolve these transactional issues promptly.
• Financial Information Provision: Perform routine analysis and research to resolve problems, providing accurate financial information as needed, which may include producing routine financial reports using established formats.

• Background: This is a second-level vocational position requiring a foundational knowledge of standard accounting procedures, alongside familiarity with general office methods and practices.
• Experience: Demonstrated ability to accurately perform mathematical calculations and consistently meet established deadlines for financial tasks. It also requires the ability to review financial documents with high attention to detail for accuracy and to maintain both automated and manual financial records effectively.
• Skills: Core skills include basic research methods related to financial transactions and the proven ability to identify and resolve transactional issues efficiently.
